Fourth Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands: Advancing Ecosystem Management and Integrated Coastal and Ocean Management by 2010 in the Context of Climate Change (April 7-11, 2008, Hanoi, Vietnam)
The Fourth Global Ocean Conference, organized with the Government of Vietnam, brought together 439 ocean and coastal leaders from 62 countries and assessed essential issues in the governance of the world’s oceans, with a focus on moving toward an integrated and ecosystem-based approach to oceans governance at national, region, and global levels. The conference looked at the progress achieved (or lack thereof) on the global oceans targets established at the 2002 WSSD and, for the first time, made a concerted effort to bring oceans policy together with climate change issues.
